About Western Wear

The original style of American western wear was born from the practical needs of farmers, ranchers, herders, and cowboys who worked daily with livestock and made their living from the soil on America's 19th century Western frontier. Western wear is derived from the unique style of the western clothes worn in the early American West.
Western clothing is also closely styled after the singing cowboys such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. This style of extravagant western wear costuming consists - most of the time - of rhinestones and detailed embroidery. No matter if from the Real West, or Hollywood's version, the cowboy of American West became an cultural icon.
Today, while working cowboys and folks involved with agribusiness still wear this style of clothing, Western Wear is not just for cowboys and cowgirls anymore. Many folks who couldn't tell a lariat from a pumpjack want to dress themselves in western wear clothing because of the style, fit, and comfort - as well as the look of the American West it expresses.
Few frontier cowtowns have survived into the 21st century, and even fewer have maintained their links to the frontier past as well as San Angelo; the principle city in West Texas. One of America's best preserved historic Western outposts, Fort Concho, is located in San Angelo and is visited by thousands annually. The Fort was home to units of the US Army Cavalry, including "Buffalo Soldiers," who gained much respect for their fighting ability as the Army protected settlers from Native Americans. It was this connection to Fort Concho which helped give rise to San Angelo's local industry of supplying boots and saddles.
